April Showers Bring Spring Floodtrash

Ahhh. At last! Two days in a row when it's warm enough to go outside without a jacket. Today was a good day to take a walk around the farm and take a closer look at the changes that have come to be with the advent of Spring.
The strip of the wide, grassy pasture along the West Branch of the Delaware River is littered with flood trash that's washed up from several recent rainstorms. Branches, both large and small, will need to be carted off to designated collection piles, where they will eventually break down. Gideon and Ron are placing stakes and running wire fencing in the pastures along the river today to prepare for the next herd pasture rotation.
Births in the barnyard seem to have slowed down from what they were two weeks ago, when it seemed like a new calf was being born every day! It's been a week with no new babies--but a few are on the very near horizon. Wyatt's been naming them, and although my gut tells me that naming a calf that's being raised for...um...ingestion...is not a great idea, he has had fun coming up with the names, and he's feeling pretty proud of his choices. X-Box, Minnow, Swallow, Bass Pro, Chickadee and (I forgot) are enjoying today's blue sky and warmth, frolicking around the pasture, and they are such fun to watch.
Ron's stream restoration project on our property across the road has finally come to fruition. In a nutshell, he's employed several pieces of heavy equipment to fell some trees, dig out invasive shrubbery, restructure the stream banks, and place moderate sized logs at crisscross angles in the path of the water flow and stem erosion.
Last but not least, a lot of fishing has been going on. There's to be a major brook trout excursion this evening. Those of us without rods and reels will be roasting marshmallows (and leftover Peeps?) around the fire pit.
